Arrival in Yangon, welcomed by our driver and transfer to hotel in the downtown. Free time for your own discovery of the city to discover the daily life of local residents. Yangon, formerly known as Rangoon, is a relatively quiet and charming city. Its impressive colonial and spiritual heritage makes it one of the most fascinating cities in Southeast Asia. Start your city tour with the center of Yangon to be immersed into the charming colonial city:
– Board the local “circular train” that goes around the city to observe the vibrant and colorful life of Yangonnais.
– Visit Chaukhtatgyi Pagoda and its great Reclining Buddha whose colossal stature
– Continue with the National Museum, the country’s principal cultural museum, which houses an extensive collection of Burmese artifacts.
– When the sun moves slowly westward, stroll along China Town housing decrepit colonial buildings, an abundance of small shops and street vendors .
– End the day with an extended visit to the Shwedagon Pagoda, one of the world’s most spectacular religious monuments, rises up to 99 meters. Overnight at hotel in Yangon.
Take a drive to Kyaiktiyo where the Golden Rock, one of the main pilgrimage sites in Myanmar, is located. On arrival at the foot of the mountain, transfer by truck along a winding road and then take a short walk to the Golden Rock (about one hour). The truck ride is a special experience: sitting on the strips at the back of the open truck, you’ll be impressed by the ever-changing perspective of Myanmar countryside landscapes. The gilded rock is balanced on the edge of a ledge thanks to a hair thread of the Buddha which is contained in the pagoda at the top of the rock. Back to Yangon via Bago, the former capital of the Mon Kingdom in the 16th century with some highlights:
– Visit Shwemawdaw Pagoda, one of the most venerated pagodas in Myanmar, built in the typical Mon-style architecture, the highest pagoda (with 114-meter high stupa) throughout Myanmar
– Shwethalyaung, the temple that houses a 55-meter long reclining Buddha.
– End the day tour by a stroll through streets of the neighborhoods and discover the weaving workshops where the Mon produces lovely textiles (especially the famous longyi). Arrive in Yangon in the late afternoon. Overnight at hotel in Yangon.
Morning transfer to the airport for the flight to Inle. On arrival, welcomed by our guide and head up to Pindaya, the untouched site offering many fascinating trekking routes. Visit the famous Pindaya Cave, one of the most outstanding charms of the region. Stop at the hill foot and climb up the 200-step stairway leading to the entrance of the limestone cave where Shwe U Min Pagoda is located. Start to explore the cave which dates back to million years ago including numerous small caves filed with thousands of Buddha images in various sizes. Then move on the route to the hotel in Inle. Greet the morning by a drive up to Kakku, the appealing site of ancient stupas. On the way, visit to some small villages of the Pao, main ethnic group in the region. Visit Kakku, the “religious treasure” on the square of six hectares where more than 2500 pagodas were built between the 12th and 13th century. These stupas are made of brick and laterite, 3 to 4 meters high, all neatly aligned. Each monument is seen to be “inhabited by the Buddha”. It still remains untouched by travelers, deserving to be a real curiosity! Back to Inle Lake, “the gemstone of Shan highland”. This scenic glassy world is nested among jagged mountain ranges, fringed with marshes and floating gardens. Here stilt houses and religious sites rise above water, the Inthas live, grown up and work on the water. Overnight at hotel in Inle.
Greet the morning with a visit to local market. Around Inle, markets are held alternatively every 5 days in different places. Discover the authentic life of the locals, meet corlorful ethnic villagers and their products. Then you will board a private motorboat to head out to Inle Lake. Stop at some floating villages such as the weaving village of Inpawkhone, the Ywama Village where goldsmith and silversmith are born. Visit Phaung Daw Oo Pagoda, the lake’s main sanctuary, which contains 5 sacred Buddha covered in gold leaf and Nga Phe Kyaung Monastery, the monastery of jumping cats.
Late afternoon, join an e-bike tour along the lakeside to explore the modest and peaceful life. On the way, stop at Red Mountain Estate Vineyard and Winery to contemplate the grapes plantation and enjoy some local wine, a wonderful experience to be immersed in the romantic atmosphere of sunset over the valley (budget on your own). Transfer to airport for morning flight to Mandalay. Upon arrival, welcomed by our guide and move on route to Inwa, one out of four ancient capital cities around Mandalay. Take a horse-cart tour around the ruins of Maha Aungmye Bonzan Monastery, Bagaya Monastery and Nanmyint Watch Tower. Continue to Amarapura, a former capital whose name means ‘City of Immortality’ for a walk along the 200 year-old teak bridge U Bein. Stroll along the bridge and capture the glorious sunset view. Start the city tour to explore the cultural capital of Burma:
– Visit Royal Palace, the resident of King Mindon and his wives, this palace is a spectacular architecture by its dimensions.
– Kuthodaw Pagoda, well-noted as the world’s largest book with its 729 engraved marble steles
– Shwenandaw Monastery, a masterpiece of intricate teakwood carving, the most significant building in the history of Mandalay.
Afternoon, transfer to the airport for flight to Bagan. Upon arrival, you will be picked up by the driver and transfer to the hotel. Overnight at hotel in Bagan.
Refreshing this day by a morning visit to the colorful and lively Nyaung U market, a whirlwind of colours from fresh vegetables and fruits to locals handicrafts. Back to Bagan, then transfer to Min Nan Thu village and Phwa Saw village which are well-noted for the traditional crafts of oxcart wheel-making and lacquer ware, two of the best-known handicrafts of Myanmar. Stop at a family lacquer ware workshop to watch their producing process.
Afternoon, enjoy the visit to main temples and pagodas by horse-cart and car: Ananda, one of the most remarkable and venerated temples throughout Myanmar with four standing Buddhas, Dhammayangyi, the largest structure of Bagan dating back to 19th century, Thatbyinnyu, the highest pagoda of the whole Bagan, with a height of 62 meters (if time permits). Late afternoon, climb up to a tall temple to enjoy the sunlight shower the whole plain. Overnight at hotel in Bagan.
Transfer to Nyaung U Airport for flight to Thandwe, a small town located west of the country in the state of Arakhine. Welcomed by the driver then transfer to Ngapali (30-minute drive). This idyllic beach, which overlooks the turquoise water of the Bay of Bengal and bordered by lush palm trees, draws an arc of harmonious circle of about 3 km. Three days entirely free to relax on this heavenly beach of white sand and to swim in the turquoise water. It is possible to participate in some beach activities on site (depending on your expense). You could ride a bike or walk to discover the local life at some nearby fishing villages, colorful markets, dried-fish shops and beautiful shells; go on fishing trips to explore some offshore islands or take part in a snorkerling tour to explore the underwater life in the translucent water. Take morning flight to Yangon. Upon arrival, you will be welcomed by our driver and transfer to the hotel. Free time for your own discovery of the city. You could come back to Bogyoke market for the last shopping of souvenirs before the departure tomorrow, or drop by a local tea shop to enjoy the flavors of Burmese typical tea and snacks, watching the bustling streets outside.
